SARAWAK INDEPENDENCE’S DAY 2018 MESSAGE

BY

YANG BERBAHAGIA DATUK HAJI ABANG ABDUL WAHAP BIN HAJI ABANG JULAI

                      MAYOR OF KUCHING NORTH

Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh…
Greetings from Kuching North City Hall….

First and foremost wishing everyone in the land of the Hornbill a Happy 55th Sarawak Independence’s Day.

July 22nd, 1963 is a very important date for us Sarawakian as it was on that day, Sarawak gained its independence from British rule and administered by its own people.

Thus, it is our duty as Sarawakian to maintain the unity and harmony amongst the people of various races in this state to ensure that Sarawak continues to develop and prosper.

We must also be grateful that Sarawak remain harmonious, with 27 main ethnic groups we are able to maintain the spirit of solidarity. There are differences but we joined in diversity out of mutual understanding and respect. For that, we are proud of the fact that Kuching was declared the City of Unity on August 1, 2015.

This city of ours is now 30 years old. At this age we are matured enough to decide the direction for the city. Surely, our ultimate goal is to make Kuching a sustainable, liveable and safe city.

Lastly, I would like people of Sarawak to remain united and continue to strive in ensuring the peace and harmony in Sarawak for the sake of our wellbeing and prosperity.

To all Sarawakian, let us celebrate the 55th Sarawak Independence’s Day and 30th Birthday of Kuching City. May us all stay blessed and grateful!

Wabillahi Taufik Walhidayah Wassalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh….
