Ramadan Bazaar food handlers must attend course, medical checkup
Posted on : 18 Apr 2017  Source of News: The Borneo Post

KUCHING: As of this year, all food handlers at every Ramadan Bazaar are required to attend a Food Handling Course under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009, Regulation 30 and 31.

In addition, they must undergo a medical check-up which includes getting a typhoid (three-year) vaccination from a registered medical practitioner.

The vaccination is to prevent food handlers from contracting typhoid fever and subsequently contaminating the food they are selling.

This is also in line with the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Clean, Beautiful and Safe Enhancement Plan to ensure that all food served to customers is safe for consumption.

Applications for a spot in this year’s Ramadan Bazaar must include a copy of the food handling course certificate, a copy of the medical check-up form and proof of typhoid vaccination.

Those found guilty of failing to complete the above will be fined not more than RM10,000 or jailed for not more than two years for each offence committed.

Food Handler cards will also be issued soon to enable enforcement officers to monitor each bazaar throughout the month of Ramadan.

A list of registered Food Handler training schools and relevant forms are available at the DBKU Licensing Office, Level 2, Al-Idrus Commercial Centre, Jalan Satok, Kuching.

Inquiries can be directed to Benard Maoh Peter Datu or Nur Farhannah Mohd Ramzi at 082-234654 or 082-234657.
